WAN Bandwidth Cost Reduction Can Drive Edge Computing

As latency performance and cost savings on bandwidth were the reason content delivery networks have had value, so latency reduction and bandwidth cost are likely to emerge as key values provided by various edge computing platforms.

And though “latency performance” is the oft-cited unique benefit of edge computing, it seems inevitable that ways to save on wide area network bandwidth costs will be equally-important drivers of value. That will be the case as data volumes increase exponentially, driven by the density of internet of things sensors, in large part.
